With so much happening in the world, it can be easy to stop and appreciate the special roles that friends and family play in our lives. That’s why this Father’s Day, we’d like to slow down and celebrate Suburban Square’s own father-son duo, Simon and Adam of Simon Pearce.
Simon’s love for glassmaking and pottery came from shopping with his parents. He told us, “I enjoyed going to small antique shops and weekend flea markets to look for old Georgian glass — glass that was blown and made by hand in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. I started collecting it, wanting to learn more about it and how to make glass like it.”
Fast forward to today, and Simon Pearce goods are made at three distinct workshops: two in Quechee and Windsor, Vermont, and one in Mountain Lake Park, Maryland. All pottery is made at the Windsor, Vermont pottery workshop.
Meanwhile, Simon’s son, Adam, is the founder of the LoveYourBrain Foundation, which he started after his brother Kevin’s near-fatal traumatic brain injury (TBI). “We believe that mindfulness, yoga and community are essential to transforming the wellbeing of people with TBI and their caregivers. This belief is why we pioneered our community-based Yoga program—offered nationwide—to empower our community with new tools, resources and connections,” Adam said.
Simon’s wife, Pia Pearce, created a special glassware collection which donates 20% of its sales to the foundation, and every year, Simon Pearce partners with LoveYourBrain for the organization’s MindfulMarch initiative.
We love seeing the endless ways that this creative and motivating family collaborates to make a difference in the lives of many, and we love having them at Suburban Square.
Now more than ever, it’s important to remember the importance of family. Whether you sit down for dinner together or put on a fun movie, we encourage you to try to take a moment to show your appreciation. Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing fathers and father figures in our Suburban Square community!
